Our third episode has finally landed! After an inexcusably long time in the stratosphere, we welcome you all to see our condensed review of the first 30 minutes with Fallout 3. Our guest on the couch this time around was Liza Shulyayeva, a veteran PC gamer but console virgin. We hope you enjoy this episode [...]
Our second episode where we sit down and give the infamous game Braid a run through the TLC gauntlet. As you can see we tried a bit of a different format for this one, and yours truly wasn’t involved since I had already completely pwn3d the game before this session. Be sure to check out [...]
Our pilot episode, needless to say it’s a little rough around the edges! At this stage we were just testing out our tech and some show ideas, but hopefully you will find the core concept of the show still intact and enjoyable. We’ll be posting new videos and redesigning the webpage to better address what [...]
Our pilot episode, needless to say it’s a little rough around the edges! At this stage we were just testing out our tech and some show ideas, but hopefully you will find the core concept of the show still intact and enjoyable. We’ll be posting new videos and redesigning the webpage to better address what we want to do with the show. For now, please check the comment section for the accompanying short reviews, and keep an eye out for our extended review session that we call “Flogging a dead horse” (FaDH for short). Please leave us your comments and let us know what you think, you can find a Uservoice tab on our About page if that’s your fancy as well!

I think my biggest problem with this game was that I really wanted to like it. I love Greek/Roman culture, I totally dig a good action/RPG, and in fact I played the piss out of Titan Quest. So I sat down with RotA expecting to be immersed in a world I enjoy, with compelling stories, and some nice ARPG innovations that I’d been hearing about. Instead, I didn’t get any of the above at all. The game seems to fight between itself, never deciding if it wants to be a dialog driven video play, or an action packed hack and slash. It simply didn’t impress me in any area, didn’t innovate in any way that I cared for, and in my eyes could have seriously benefited by some good editing and voice actors.

Bad voice acting totally ruins a game for me. I never played Deus Ex for that reason (though everyone says it was awesome)

Let me start off by saying that I had hopes for this game, high hopes. The footage on displays was good and the material fresh. Then I had these hopes dashed to the ground and crushed like an egg. After 30 minutes of this game I felt I’d been cheated, severely cheated.
Where to start? First off, the story that all the reviewers thought was awesome didn’t really exist for me. It diverges from the real story of Jason way too much. Sort of like when a telly movie says based on a true event and the only thing true is the date. Anyway, leave the story. As a designer friend of mine once said ‘It doesn’t matter about the story. A game should be great without it.’
Technically the game was a write off. Poor texture mapping, too much bloom, repetitive combat mechanics and a running animation that had us on the floor laughing. This coupled with no facial expressions from any of the characters during dialogue and the inability for the voice actors to actually act made this a woeful experience. One thing I’ll give them points for is that some of the environments look very pretty. Oh and the dudes that open the doors were kinda cool.

Cons: Moustache guy in the middle not wearing enough pants
Pros: Mostly the screen concealed moustache guy’s lack of pants
